According to TSN, The NHL said supports Stephen Walkom's call waving off a Chicago Blackhawks' goal in the third period of game 7 of the Blackhawks' series against the Detroit Red Wings.
Walkom drew attention on Wednesday night when he called back defenceman Niklas Hjalmarsson's goal late in the third period that would have put the Blackhawks up 2-1.
The NHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations, Mike Murphy, said on Thursday that Walkom's responsibility on the play was to watch behind the play and not worry about the puck.
The whistle was blown before the goal and the league said that the no-goal call was "absolutely correct."
TSN said that the goal was not allowed with 1:47 left when Walkom called coincidental minor penalties behind the play seconds before.
Chicago ended up winning the game in overtime. The Blackhawks will play the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference final.
The Kings-Blackhawks and Penguins-Bruins series both begin on Saturday, and Walkom has been assigned as one of the referees for the first round.
