Kris Draper retires

According to the CBC, Red Wing Kris Draper has retired. Draper played 20 seasons in

the NHL, 17 of which were with the Red Wings. It was playing next season with the

Red Wings or retirement for Draper. Draper did not want to sign a two-way deal to

play in the minor leagues, coming to camp on a tryout or playing with another team.

Draper won the Stanley Cup in 1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008.

"I loved everything about the game and everything about the Red Wings", Draper

said. "And that's why I'm going to miss it so much."

Draper played 1,137 games with the Red Wings, the fifth most. Only Gordie Howe,

Steve Yzerman, Alex Delvecchio, and Nicklas Lidstrom. He played 222 playoff games,

and he had 24 goals and 46 points in those games. Draper scored 161 goals and

notched 203 assists, earning 364 points over 1,157 games. Draper also won the Frank

J. Selke trophy (the NHL"s best defensive forward) in 2003-2004, when he scored 24

goals and 40 points, evem though he missed 15 games due to a shoulder injury.
