The World Junior Hockey Championships: A Holiday Tradition

The world juniors are a holiday tradition at my house. I have been watching the world juniors for the last 5 tournaments. My dad and I went to the 2009 world junior
championships right here in Ottawa. We went to one game on boxing day and the gold
medal game.

I still have a clear memory of when Jonathan Toews scored the three goals against the U.S. in the shootout to take Canada to the gold medal game. I also remember when
Jonathan swore in his post-game interview after winning the gold medal. At that time,
I was shocked to hear swearing on live television.

I remember how people in the stands(including myself) at Scotiabank Place celebrated when Canada won the gold medal. I remember the dissapointment I felt(and of course,
Team Canada) when Team USA beat team Canada in overtime in the gold medal game at the
last world juniors. So not all of my world junior memories are happy.

I am hoping for redemption this year. The World Juniors being in the U.S. only
amplifies my desire for team Canada's revenge. Think about it. How cool would it be if we not only avenge the taking of the gold medal on our soil(last year's tournament
was held in Regina and Saskatoon) but if we did it on the defending champions soil,
it would be very sweet.
