Pittsburgh Penguins Max Talbot heated up the Penguins/ Capitals rivalry on Tuesday when he was promoting the 2011 NHL Winter Classic between the Penguins and Caps on New Years Day at Heinz Field. While doing a promotional interview on Pittsburgh Penguins radio station 105.9 The X, Talbot had some not very nice things to say about Ovechkin. According to TSN, Talbot said exactly this "I just hate the guy."
"I can't lie. Sorry. Even more so for a guy like Ovechkin. Like seriously, okay...yeah I don't like him." Talbot also admitted that immediately disliked Ovechkin the first time he met him. Talbot told the X "The first time I met the guy, actually, I met him off the ice." Talbot also said "You hear a lot of stories about a guy, but sometimes they're not true. You hear of guys who are not good guys, and you're like'yeah okay, I'll give the guy a shot.' The first time I met him, let's say he didn't give the best impression to me, so better reason to hate him even more."
Talbot also made his dislike for Ovechkin clear during a subsequent encounter."I was actually at the NHL awards last summer with Evgeni Malkin, and we brought the Stanley Cup over there after the season" Talbot said to The X. "Malkin knew Ovechkin, and introduced me to him, and the first impression wasn't great. I'm not really gonna say what happened, but I'm like'Okay, this guy is a real(expletive deleted).'"
This is only the latest chapter in the Penguins/Capitals rivalry. The rivalry truly came to life during the 2009 playoffs when the Penguins eliminated the Capitals on the way to the Stanley Cup. Before that however, it took an interesting turn when Caps forward Alex Semin described Penguins captain Sidney Crosby as "nothing special" and said that the Blackhawks Patrick Kane was a more interesting player. Both teams have attacked each other in the media.
I think that this particular incident makes Talbot look immature. Although I like that Talbot called Ovechkin out and admitted that Ovechkin is not a nice guy, he shouldn't have called him "a d-----", because that is just plain nasty and immature.
If you're going to admit that you don't like a person, fine, but you don't have to take it that far. What do you think of this whole situation?
