Canadiens' Andrei Markov becomes a Canadian Citizen

Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov has become a Canadian citizen. According to the CBC website, the Habs player took the oath of citizenship at a ceremony in Montreal.
Markov, who is originally from Russia, was holding a small maple leaf during the ceremony. Markov told the CBC "I'm happy to be here and proud to be Canadian,". Markov took the oath of citizenship with 31 other people from 13 different countries.
Andrei Markov was accompanied by Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier and
team president Pierre Boivin.

Markov said that he will keep his Russian citizenship, and he will play for Russia at
international tournaments. Markov said "I've been here in Montreal for ten years
and I like this city, I like this country and it's important for me to be Canadian- but I'm still Russian anyway," he said. Markov also said "I'm never going to play for the Canadians, sorry."

I think it is cool that Markov has become a Canadian citizen, even though I am not a Habs fan, nor am I a fan of Andrei Markov. I consider it a compliment when someone from another country decides that they love our country so much that they decide to become a citizen. It's fine with me if that person keeps their other citizenship, for that is their business, not mine.

What do you think of Markov becoming a Canadian citizen?
