According to TSN, St. Louis' Blues forward Andy McDonald has continued
to deal with concussion issues, so he has decided to retire.
McDonald played in 12 seasons with the St. Louis Blues
and Anaheim Ducks, scoring 489 points in 685 games.
McDonald also gained five known concussions over his career.
TSN says that McDonald told truehockey.com
"The last few years, too much of the focus became
worrying about the next hit. I was always thinking about it."
McDonald had thoughts of retirement during the season
and made the decision after discussing it
with his family after the Blues' elimination from the playoffs.
McDonald said "I'm fortunate to get out now,"
and added " I know I could play two or three more
years and I love the game of hockey, but healthwise,
I know I shouldn't be playing." McDonald was supposed to become
an unrestricted free agent this summer.
