Female Hockey Fans Get Less Respect Than They Deserve
An Ottawa student magazine called glue published an article last year called "Don't Puck With Me", about why female hockey fans get such little respect. The main reason that the article mentions is that we are stereotyped as not actually being interested in the game itself or only being in it for the cute players. I myself feel that I am just as passionate as any male fan would be, but like the article says, I am attracted to my favourite players in a different way than a male fan would be. There are many players that I have followed since their junior career. One example is Logan Couture. I followed and met him many times when he was an Ottawa 67 and I am happy to root for the San Jose Sharks because that's the NHL team he plays for. Yes I have certain hockey crushes, but you couldn't call me a girl who goes to hockey games to hook up with hockey players because I probably know more about hockey than most girls my age, and I never attempt to flirt with players when I meet them. Are there any female fans reading this who are frustrated about the lack of respect that we often receive?
