Dion Phaneuf weds Elisha Cuthbert

On Saturday July 6th, Toronto Maple Leafs Captain Dion Phaneuf married actress Elisha Cuthbert at St. James Catholic Church in Summerfield, Prince Edward Island.  They held their reception at their summer residence in New London, Prince Edward Island on Saturday.

Bobby Ryan lands with the Senators, Daniel Alfredsson lands with Detroit

Bobby Ryan, formerly of the Anaheim Ducks, signed a contract with the Ottawa Senators today.  Also, in a shocking twist-of-events, the captain of the Ottawa Senators, Daniel Alfredsson, who is a demi-god in the city of Ottawa, signed a one-year contract with Detroit.

I have met both of these players.   I even have a picture of myself with Bobby Ryan from when I was much younger.  I met him at the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in Ottawa. 

 

I met Alfie at the 2012 NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa.  Well, I did not really meet him, but I my dad

 

did get me his autograph with me standing there -Thanks Dad!

 

Anyway, Alfie seems like a class act and will be missed by many in the city of Ottawa.  The Mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson, tweeted "RT @sensfoundation: Thank You @DAlfredsson11 for your passion and leadership on the ice and in the community.  #11 in our programs and #1 in our hearts."

One Direction wear Montreal Canadiens Jerseys

At their show in Montreal last night, the Britsh-Irish boy band One Direction wore Montreal

Canadiens Jerseys, a tradition for visiting musicians in Montreal. 

Here is a picture of the whole band in their jerseys:

From left: Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson.

To my dissappointment, apparently Harry Styles was the only one who kept his jersey on.

I am a huge fan of 1D (as us fans call them), and they were wearing a Habs jersey, so I am super

excited. It seems to be tradition in Montreal for bands and artists that come to town to wear

Habs jerseys.

This is not the first time One Direction has worn sports jerseys in a city.  In New York in 2012 Harry

wore a Yankees jersey, and in Toronto last year they sported the jerseys of the Toronto Raptors and

the Maple Leafs.

Logan Couture agrees to five-year, $30 million extension with San Jose Sharks

According to TSN, Logan Couture has signed a five-year, $30 million agreement with the San Jose Sharks.  TSN's Bob McKenzie says that the deal has an average annual value of $6 million per year.  The deal cannot be signed until July 5th, 2013.  Couture will make $2, 875 million next year in the final season of his current deal.  Couture has been the Sharks top goal scorer the last two seasons. 

I have met Logan a few times over the years when he was an Ottawa 67 and I will say that he is a very fine young man and a great hockey player.  I am very proud of him.
